Am-Pro coaches and clubs January 2010
A recent decision by the ABAE Council means that the ABAE will now allow for amateur boxing clubs to open their doors to professional boxers
Additionally, amateur-professional coaches can affiliate to the ABAE on a dual recognition basis, allowing them to participate in amateur-professional activities. Any current or future professional wishing to affiliate to the ABAE must be of ABAE full coach standard (Level 2 or above).
It is hoped that the decision will benefit amateur boxing clubs both finanically and in terms of relationships with their boxers and fellow coaches.
Keith Walters, ABAE Chairman, said: "This will offer ABAE coaches and clubs the opportunity to retain links with former amateurs who have turned professional and for clubs to benefit from long term relationships."
Robert Smith, British Boxing Board of Control General Secretary, welcomed the change: "The two codes of boxing have for centuries fought against each other and the new drive and vision in both amateur and professional boxing augurs well for the future, " he said.
Amateur-professional dual affiliated members of the ABAE WILL NOT be insured under ABAE policy whilst working on professional activities. Insurance for professional activities taking place would be borne by the professional organisers. There would be no insurance afforded from ABAE towards any professional activity.
